Hi @kc251997 Cloudera recently changed the download policy. Yes, you must have a valid subscription in order to download the software. Please see the announcement here: https://www.cloudera.com/downloads/paywall-expansion.html …where the sentence most pertinent to your question ("I only want CDH, Hive, Impala Free versions for testing") is as follows: Effective January 31, 2021, all Cloudera software will require a valid subscription and only be accessible via the paywall. This includes all legacy versions for Cloudera Distribution including Apache Hadoop (CDH), Hortonworks Data Platform (HDP), Data Flow (HDF/CDF), and Cloudera Data Science Workbench (CDSW). Toward the end of that announcement, you will see a section titled Frequently Asked Questions which explains the credentials and how to properly obtain them if you don't have them already.

Hi @danc003 You are seeing this error message due to a recent change in Cloudera's policies about binary package availability in Cloudera's public repositories. Packages are now only available for download from private repositories. Please see the announcement here: Transition to private repositories for CDH, HDP and HDF …where the relevant section is this: As part of the changes announced in October 2020, beginning in February 2021, no versions of Cloudera Manager, CDH…releases will be available via Cloudera's public repositories. Instead, all of the then-currently supported releases of Cloudera Manager, CDH, Ambari, HDP and HDF will be accessible only to active customers with valid subscription entitlements to these Cloudera products. This follows similar changes made for versions released since November 2019, which were never posted in Cloudera’s public repositories. Emphasis added. The same announcement has links in it to documentation describing in detail how to install Ambari and other software from Cloudera’s private repositories.

Hello @parthk Cloudera recently changed the download policy and now all CDH parcels are only available from a private repository. Please see the announcement here: Transition to private repositories for CDH, HDP and HDF The relevant paragraph is this: …beginning in February 2021, no versions of Cloudera Manager, CDH, Apache Ambari, HDP and HDF releases will be available via Cloudera's public repositories. Yes, this is a change from the previous situation where only CDH 6.3.3 and later releases were exclusively available from the private repository. That same announcement describes how to get access to the private repository where the CDH 6.3.3 and later releases can be obtained.

@kdunchained I am not aware of any formal, technical coupling between Ambari and Cloudera's HDP repositories. Ambari is a completely open source project which you can freely download from Apache's site and if there was a formal, technical coupling between Ambari and Cloudera's HDP repositories, one could edit the source code and/or configuration files and remove it at any time. With a sufficient amount of knowledge and development work, one could build the necessary components for a fully-functional cluster with images (and the needed version definition files, etc.) they built themselves from Apache's sources and deploy them using Ambari. I haven't tried it, but that's just because I don't have anywhere near that kind of free time. The analogy I like to use is with RedHat's RPM. There are other Linux distributions that use RPM as a package manager but don't exclusively deploy RedHat's Enterprise Linux packages.

Hi @dobdo815 You didn't mention what the actual error message you encountered when you attempted to install on either Virtual Box or Docker was that made you conclude the installation failed. As far as your main question, I am not aware of any recent article or blog post that goes into any useful detail about installing the HDP Sandbox on MS Azure, and if I am correct, I suspect that is because the version available from the Azure Marketplace is quite outdated: For context, one of the most recent HDP releases was version 3.1.5. If there are recent instructions available for installing the Sandbox on Azure, I am sure a community member will weigh in here. HDP in the cloud has been superseded by a newer product from Cloudera, CDP Public Cloud, which you can read about here: CDP PUBLIC CLOUD OVERVIEW Hope this helps.

@Kjafarov As I understand from this post: Cloudera Manager will continue to run either fully features or with the Cloudera Express feature set for some Cloudera Manager 6 versions. …yes, it is possible to continue to use the Cloudera Express edition circa CDH6. The only recent change was that Cloudera moved the binaries it distributes from public repositories into private repositories. And again, the announcement I linked to above has links in it to documentation describing in detail how to install CDH and other software from Cloudera’s private repositories. This means if you're trying to install on a new cluster using Cloudera's public repositories as a source for the packages, that installation would fail. It does not mean that it is now impossible to use the Cloudera Express edition from the CDH6 era. Hope this helps.

Hi @Kjafarov You didn't give us any detail about the error message you received that made you conclude the installation process failed, so I will infer that you recently attempted to install CDH6 and/or Cloudera Manager packages and the package download process did not complete successfully because you were trying to download them from public repositories. If that's true, then you are probably being affected by a recent change in Cloudera's policies about binary package availability.
