@Michael Bronson You do not need to delete the whole Spark2 Service. You can delete the "SparkThrift Server" host component which are installed on the two hosts (as per your initial screenshot) and then check if your Spark2 is all working fine ... Prior to the HDP upgrade please check/run the Spark2 service check. If everything is green and running then you can start upgrading to HDP 2.6.5. Once the upgrade is completed then any time you can click on the Ambari UI --> Hosts (Tab) --> Specific Host --> "Add" (Button) and then add the "SparkThrift Server" when you need it.

@Dear Jay , thank you so much for the grate answer , just one additional question - about my post ( https://community.hortonworks.com/questions/248726/hdp-upgrade-from-264-to-265-is-it-necessary-to-upg.html ) , its not clearly if I can to upgrade HDP to 2.6.5 from 2.6.4 without ambari upgrade from 2.6.1 to. 2.6.2 so in simple words - can we just upgrade from 2.6.4 to 2.6.5 while ambari will stay with version - 2.6.1 ? its very important because on the matrix version the answer is yes but from hortonworks document the answer is different so we are very confused here - please help us to know the final answer

@Michael Bronson Yes, it is possible. But the strongly recommended approach will be to upgrade Ambari to 2.6.2.2 first and then upgrade HDP to 2.6.5.

@Michael Bronson Following doc explains step by step instruction to perform this activity (including taking various backups) https://docs.hortonworks.com/HDPDocuments/Ambari-2.6.2.2/bk_ambari-upgrade/content/ambari_upgrade_guide.html Getting Ready: https://docs.hortonworks.com/HDPDocuments/Ambari-2.6.2.2/bk_ambari-upgrade/content/preparing_to_upgrade_ambari_and_hdp.html Basically you will need to first upgrade Ambari and then perform the HDP upgrade. Upgrading Ambari to 2.6.2.2: (also the ambari Post upgrade steps) https://docs.hortonworks.com/HDPDocuments/Ambari-2.6.2.2/bk_ambari-upgrade/content/preparing_to_upgrade_ambari_and_hdp.html Upgrading HDP to HDP 2.6.5: https://docs.hortonworks.com/HDPDocuments/Ambari-2.6.2.2/bk_ambari-upgrade/content/upgrading_hdp_stack.html

@Michael Bronson What i mean to say is this ::: At AmbariServer level you can not manage two clusters as a Single cluster. But if you want to Produce Messages to Kafka (For example via Spark Application then that can be done even in Non Ambari Managed cluster as well right) For Example: In your Spark application define the correct Kafka Broker host/port ...etc like following: https://spark.apache.org/docs/latest/streaming-kafka-0-10-integration.html
