Any idea why none of the screenshots attached in this post are not visible. I am using Oracle VM Virtualbox with HDP 2.5 and am at Step 2, but without the screenshots, it is hard to understand what to change in the port forwarding rules dialog box. This is an old thread, hoping someone is still monitoring and can reply.

Awesome, glad it worked out. Happy exploring the world of big data with HDP.

@Sasitharan Ravindar That is odd that you are not able to set the password. I don't have much idea about PostgreSQL server error. Maybe the password needs to be little longer that what you are setting it to. Last resort you can try to reimport the .ova file image in VirtualBox, if you already haven't done that few times (i had to when things were not working). What I have noticed is that you need atleast 12 to 16 gb RAM on your machine as the VM itself needs a minimum of 8 gb. I have set mine to 12 gb as I have total RAM of 16 GB. The reinstall bit worked for some other user https://community.hortonworks.com/questions/66688/could-not-set-the-password-for-ambari-server.html

@Sasitharan Ravindar How are logging onto the terminal/edge node ? If you are not using putty, then download that and use that to login to 127.0.0.1 at port 2222. I feel u are using the Docker Terminal and hence all these command not found errors. If you use putty and run the ambari password set script, then you will also see the ambari service re-started after that. And then you can try to go to your browser and localhost:8081 to see if it loads the Ambari login page.

@ Sasitharan Ravindar It finally worked for me. I had to change the Host port for "ambari" entry in the Virtual box Port forwarding from 8080 to 8081 after reading this articles last suggestion https://community.hortonworks.com/content/supportkb/48805/issues-connecting-to-ambari-in-the-hdp-sandbox.html and then in browser went to localhost:8081 and the login page for Ambari loaded. Make sure you set the admin password first by logging into the sandbox using putty and going to host 127.0.0.1 at port 2222 Logging in via the Docker terminal window that you see after you start the virtual machine does not work. That password change script is not found.

I have almost similar issue. When using 172.17.0.2 I get same error. But when going to 127.0.0.1:8080 it throws a login page and typing the user as admin and password as what I set by calling the ambari-admin-password-reset screen, it keeps throwing the same login page back. This whole docker host vs sandbox is very confusing. If I use the terminal window that virtual box shows after it finishes booting up the virtual machine, then i cannot run this password reset command. But if I use putty and open a terminal window to login to 127.0.0.1, then I can run the command and also check the ambari server status. Running ifconfig config from putty terminal window shows 172.17.0.2 as the inet addr under eth0

That was it @Michael Young. Once I upgraded Virtual Box, the Sandbox installed. Thank you for all your help.

Thanks for that. I ran the checksum and it matches what you have !! I googled for alternative links for download and landed on a denmark hortonworks site. It is downloading the file from hortonassets.s3.amazonasw.com so I will see if that file is any good, but now with checksum being same for the one I already downloaded, I am beginning to wonder if the problem is with Oracle Virtualbox. I have HDP2.3.1 successfully running in it.

@Mike Riggs Yes, re-checked and I have downloaded the Virtual box file. It is pretty big and even though I have a fast connection, I think the servers it is downloading from at Hortonworks are slow. So I am getting tired and have started exploring what I would need to run the sandbox on Vmware instead of Oracle Virtual box. Thing is I have successfully download and installed HDP 2.3.1 in Virtualbox before. That file is 6.77 gb in size.
