Hi @raj_kumar Seeing as some time has passed and this question has not been adequately answered by the bots & "experienced" members of this esteemed forum it would be helpful if you could write a proposed answer to your original query. Thanks sir. Boris

Simple & valid question but no chance of a simple answer. Just copy and paste the FAQ. Great job Cloudera bots!

Just got back the following response which suggests that the "New" exam environment will let us have more than one terminal open:
Users can click the terminal's "File" menu, at which point they will see options at the top for opening a new terminal window or a new terminal tab in the same window (it's a matter of preference as to which users should do, but both result in a new shell).
Additionally, for the advanced user, the environment should have both the screen and tmux applications installed, which allow one to do terminal multiplexing in a single terminal session. The manual pages for those applications are also installed, so they can learn more about how they work by typing man screen or man tmux

Can you find someone within your multi-million dollar turnover company that could assist me with this? It really is a simple question. I just want to know if I can have more than one shell/ terminal open at the same time. One would for spark-shell. One would be for hdfs commands. One for using nano or vi. That is 3 shells/terminals open at the same time. Why it so difficult to find this out?

Hello, The response that was given was essentially the exam FAQ. I think you guys must think that it coveres any and all questions that can be asked. But it does not! The exam that I am referring to is CCA175. You mention that in the simplified new environment, there are no text editors but that there are multiple interactive shells to do the work. The video doesn't mention if I can open more than one shell at any given time. Please could you confirm whether I can have two shells open at the same time or not. Thank you. Boris

The video does not play! What will have access to in this new exam format. Even getting information about the exam environment is shrouded in mystery! Well done Cloudera!

ello, the video you have linked does not work! Can you clarify what the "new" exam environment will be like? Do we have access to eclipse & sublime text? Do we have access to multiple instances of terminals?

Considering the amount of effort required to get Cloudera to work would it not just be easier to install and configure Hadoop on your own?

Unfortunately your response was not all that helpful. Why you might ask? Well, all those buttons saying “Start a topic”| “Create an article”| “PRESS ME” don’t exist half the time! If those buttons were there whilst I was trying to post do you think I would have posted in this random part of the forum? Are you aware just how rubbish this site is? I hope my feedback is of help to you.

Hi guys,
I wanted to get some clarifications on a few things regarding the CCA175 exam environment that Cloudera have issued.
There is only a single terminal which should prevent any issues with lag as had previously been experienced during the exam.
There are multiple interactive shells to do the work.
I'm not sure what this means. Does it mean:
a) I can open up more than one shell at any one time. b) I can only open one shell but can choose between spark-shell & pySpark
There is no text editor in the new, simplified environment.
I'm not sure what this means. Does it mean:
a) There is no Word, notepad, notepad++ etc but can still use vi or nano. b) There is no Word, notepad, notepad++ etc and cannot use vi or nano.
All websites, including Google/search functionality and access to Spark external packages, are disabled. You may not use notes or other exam aids.
I'm not sure what this means. Does it mean:
a) I have no access to Spark documentation. b) I have access to Spark documentation.
Before the senior posters, mods & bots suggest I contact the certification team, I did!
This is the less than helpful reponse they gave me!
Unfortunately there is no further information we can share on this.
All the information required for taking these exams is found on the related certification page and this is the same information that is made available to everybody.
There is also the option of revisiting the community forum and reviewing feedback etc. from other users who may have chosen to share their perspective.

...................Then they referred me back to this form! Might I also suggest exploring the Cloudera community forum for additional discussion with users on concerns and questions you may have. Reading other posts from previous years I've noticed this pattern where the senior guy on this forum suggests you contact exam support only for exam suport to refer people back to this forum. What a joke!

This is the useless response I got back. So generic! They seem to think that in order to protect the exam process they must do so by not clearly divulging the exam syllabus. Well done! By the way whoever deletes this post as they did the previous one should be ashamed of working for such a rubbish company! Thanks for getting in touch about the exam. While we can't directly discuss the specifics you’ve mentioned as matter of policy (due to preserving exam integrity), I’d like to share the below information and resources with you: 1) You can find out more about the Developer exam and the updated recommended preparation you can expect during your exam at https://www.cloudera.com/about/training/certification/cca-spark.html 2) This page includes information on the updated required skills, and an updated outline of the documentation as well, made available to you during the course of the exam. 3) There are also links to our Certification Terms and Conditions and our FAQ pages. 4) You may check out the exam provider, PSI online's FAQ as well before scheduling your exam. We changed the requirements for some of the exams, check the Required Skills section. We wanted them to be more in line with updates to the courses that we teach. We removed some topics from the previous versions of the exam (ie Sqoop used to be on the exam and is now gone). There is only a single terminal which should prevent any issues with lag as had previously been experienced during the exam. Also, the remote desktop has been removed and the user interface has been simplified. There is no text editor in the new, simplified environment. There are multiple interactive shells to do the work, which are mentioned in the updated video. All websites, including Google/search functionality and access to Spark external packages, are disabled. You may not use notes or other exam aids. Hope this helps!

Thanks for your response Shelton. I would like to gently remind you & the admins of something. When you are a beginner, the recommended documentation is not always as helpful as it seems to those who already have an understanding of what they’re doing! I would appreciate input from anyone else that is looking to sit or has sat the CCA175 exam. Aside from increasing the available memory what else would you/ have you considered to optimise performance using spark-shell or pySpark. I’m curious as to why this not made clear by Cloudera. For the exams, we have access to the same platform CDH 6.1. Surely one setting should to it. For example, use maximum memory/ partition by column name etc Danke Guys!

Shelton, Thanks for the response. I am unable to understand what it is that you have written. My question relates to CCA175 exam syllabus where they say that all candidates should be familar with all aspects of generating a result, not just writing code. One example they give is that one should kow how to increase available memory. I don't know how to increase available memory. Do you? They give no other examples so I don't know what to search for! FYI, I will not be going anywhere near the Hive CLI. In the exam I will be working exclusively from the spark-shell & using Spark SQL via a SparkSession Thanks for your help & effort, though unfortunately it hasn't been of use to me at this time. Could you perhaps give another example? Danke!

Guys,
Looking at the CCA175 syllabus I’m having difficulty finding info on how to supply command-line options to change an applications configuration.
I thought the whole raison d'etre of Cloudera is that they do all the configuring while analysts do analyst things and not have to do any configuring?!
Any suggestions of where the answer to this issue is would be much appreciated.
Please no mods or bots suggesting to read lame links that don’t help.
Danke guys!

Hello,
Under the new CCA175 exam syllabus is Hive the only database we will be working with?
Do we need to know how to write to other SQL databases while having to specify URI's or is everything just on Hive/HDFS?
Danke !
