Hello,
I've CDP 7.3.1 private cloud cluster (3 master, 1 manager, 1 edge & 5 slaves) . I'm wondering how can I secure a backup/restore point for it.
Is it technically right and "supported by Cloudera" if I take a VM snapshots on machines level for master nodes ? Should it be cold (offline) backup (stop or pause the cluster operations) to ensure of consistencies between distributed services on master nodes?
Thanks,
Mahmoud

Hi @MahmoudSabri , Please use the snapshot policy provided by CM to create snapshot for HDFS or Hbase.
Refer the doc - https://docs.cloudera.com/runtime/7.2.10/data-protection/topics/hdfs-create-snapshot-policy.html
Hope this will help.

Hi Mahmoud, I see you want to backup/restore the master nodes of the CDP cluster. May I know if you are planning to backup the HDFS data or the host data ?
If it is the HDFS data then you can refer this doc - https://docs.cloudera.com/cdp-private-cloud-base/7.1.6/data-protection/topics/hdfs-perform-a-backup-...
And if you are planning to backup the host data then snapshot can be a good approach.

Hi @arunek95
Thanks for your response!
"May I know if you are planning to backup the HDFS data or the host data ? "
Yes, I need to backup HDFS data as well.
"snapshot can be a good approach" , is it supported by Cloudera? I'm wondering if a heavy operational cluster with a distributed master services on master nodes can be done smoothly without facing dependencies issues, especially preserving a one-state for all master services across all master nodes at the exact same time while taking snapshot can't be granted easily, especially if we decide it would be a hot snapshot (not cold).
