When will Cloudera on base support Hive 4?

According to https://hive.apache.org/general/downloads/

"The Apache Hive Community has voted to declare the 3.x release line as End of Life (EOL). This means no further updates or releases will be made for this series.
We urge all Hive 3.x users to upgrade to the latest versions promptly to benefit from new features and ongoing support."

CDP 7.3.1 is still very much based on Hive 3.

When will Cloudera on base support Hive 4?

Thanks

Hello @moekraft

Thank you for raising your concern.

At the moment, we do not have definitive information regarding the supportability of this request. However, I will go ahead and create an internal JIRA to track it. Your request will be reviewed and addressed soon.

@moekraft
Cloudera backports many JIRAs from Hive 4 to CDP 7.3.1 Hive
Is there a specific JIRA you want to check if it's included ?

Hi @JoseManuel ,

We’re currently encountering an issue on Hive 3 (CDP 7.1.7 SP1) that matches the one described in this JIRA: HIVE-24552. Do you know if this fix has been backported to any CDP version?

Thanks in advance for your help!

@mtaieb
We can confirm that HIVE-24552 has been backported to Hive since CDP 7.1.6 and newer

Thanks!

I will check with the development team to see where they are failing with the Hive 4 support and let you know.

Thanks

Are there any plans to migrate CDP  to Hive 4?

As of now, the product management team has not decided yet. Most of  the bugs that are fixed in Hive 4 are backported  in latest releases

Thanks Asish!

In our product, we've already bumped up our Hive version to 4.1 and connecting from a Hive 4.1 client to Hive 3.x doesn't work in many instances. We've made some changes to Hive 4.1 to allow slightly more backwards compatibility but there are some instances where serialized objects are used and can't be deserialized because of version mismatches.

Thanks,

Moe
