It is very wierd that I rebooted the system, started the cloudera-management-services, and then started others services individually. It is working now. I am not sure why it happened. It was really a nightmare, and I am really surprised what should I do in such scenarios (without rebooting system).

As pointed mostly like it will be the resource allocation on those parameter good that you found it in that thread .I was close to narrow it down . Guess what sometimes it could be some socket configuration on the OS too . The logs will clearly guide us to it .

I would say Cloudera support if you have that for your cluster. They can then vet it against existing bug and patches backported to your version. They can also tell you if a bug exist, when it will be available and which version. And failing all of that they can open a new JIRA. You can open a JIRA account and create a ticket yourself, providing the CDH version and ask the community how to proceed. They should have some guidelines as well although I do not know them or have them handy.

Prequistes if you are doing Prod / Test (Provided if you have huge amount of data in that desired datanode that you are going to decommision. Increase the Datanode network bandwidh. Maximum number of replication threads on a DataNode and Hard limit on the number of replication threads on a DataNode Click on the Host that has Datanode Role - Perform Decommision and once the decommissioned is finished that you can monitor in the Namenode Web UI 50070 . Sometime I would rather leave it as decommisioned state and later if you want to include the instance back as for scalability you follow the above same procedure instead of decommision u will click recommision that it joins back to the cluster . if you want to delete the instance after decommisioning please follow the manual http://www.cloudera.com/documentation/manager/5-1-x/Cloudera-Manager-Managing-Clusters/cm5mc_role_instances.html#cmug_topic_5_2__section_xwx_hvt_cn if you need more information please let me know

Reading directories recursively isn't supported by Impala, only Hive. There is a closed JIRA asking for this to be added. https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/IMPALA-1944#

Ah, yes. I should have been clearer in my wording. I meant the VM itself. 🙂
