Yes, that's basically the reason. You also wouldn't have to leave the data directory in the hardcoded location that CM uses, which doesn't always work well for folks as the database grows large.

Since upgrading CM needs more testing, I downgraded impala to 1.0 instead. Now using impala through impala-shell is ok. However, the impala query component in hue is still not working. It can recognize all the database created in hive, but always return "No server logs for this query" to all queries.

mapred.hosts still works in CDH5 It's much easier to have Cloudera Manager handle this file for you, as it will automatically be updated when adding, decommissioning, or removing hosts. Are you seeing a problem in your cluster due to this property?

Did you add an Impala Service? Parcels are only for installing binaries. If you want something to actually run, you need to add and configure the appropriate service. Thanks, Darren

Hi Eugene, Glad you got it working! That probably explains it. Oracle has special handling for empty string vs null, and it probably did something weird in your migration scripts. Thanks, Darren
