Even i faced the same problem while upgrading the HDP version. I just logged into Ranger UI as admin user, and in the user section i reset the same password for "admin" and "amb_ranger_admin" users and restarted ranger service. This worked for me.

So how do i create a policy in Ranger for a specific user and see the policy implemented in e.g. HDFS or Hive? Just create the user in both Ambari console and Ranger with the same username? The passwords have different formats though.

a. ambari-metrics-monitor status b. ambari-metrics-monitor stop (if it is running) c. Check the ambari-metrics-collector/hbase-tmp directroy path in Ambari AMS config d. Move the hbase zk temp directory to somewhere mv /hadoop/journalnode/var/lib/ambari-metrics-collector/hbase-tmp/zookeeper/* /tmp/ams-zookeeper-backup/ e. Restart AMS from the Ambari That should resolve the issue Cheers, Pravat Sutar
