Starting on Thursday, August 15 at 6:00pm PDT, Hortonworks Community Connection will be in "read-only mode" in order to start the move to Cloudera Community. On August 17 at 12:00 a.m. PDT, the community team will migrate all site content and user accounts from Hortonworks Community Connection (HCC) to the new Cloudera Community (see below for more information). During the migration, the Cloudera Community will be in maintenance mode and content will not be available until after migration is complete; HCC will be in read-only mode (you will not be able to post during this time) and URLs will be redirected to Cloudera after the migration. Our intent is to perform the migration during low-usage hours to reduce impact to your day-to-day community use. The community is expected to be back up no later than Sunday, August 18th midday PDT. We’re working hard to ensure this transition is as smooth as possible; please be patient with us and plan accordingly. If you need assistance during the migration, please contact community-team@cloudera.com. In last month’s “HCC Community Merge” announcement, we shared exciting news that the Cloudera and Hortonworks communities will unite our content and members under one roof! In preparation for this transition, we want to introduce you to our new Reputation Program where you will be able to collect and show off all new badges or rank up in new levels in the combined Cloudera Community. Here is a preview and details of how this new program works. What about my HCC reputation and points? Your reputation as a trusted community member will move to the Cloudera Community along with your content. But your existing contributions will count towards new badges and ranks in the new system. Additionally, the new community platform uses a rank system, not a point system. Our team is working hard to ensure members will migrate into an appropriate rank level based upon their points and past HCC contributions. What is the new ranking system? While we aren’t using points moving forward, the same actions that earned you points in the past contribute to your new rankings. In other words, your rank grows as you contribute to the community through a combination of asking questions, replying to others, giving and receiving kudos (instead of “Votes” now you will give “Kudos” to helpful or thorough responses), and providing solutions. The more substantive your contributions, the higher your rank. For more ways to engage in the community check out Community Changes and Feature Definitions Details. How do I know my rank? An icon next to your username indicates your current rank. The icon will change as your reputation within the community grows, marking your progress as you move up the ranks toward becoming a Master Mentor. Check out the chart on the left for complete list of our new ranks and corresponding icons. Can I keep my existing HCC badges? You’ve earned them, and they’re yours to keep! We will move your HCC badges with your profile as legacy badges, but please be patient with us as we make any necessary adjustments within the days or weeks after the migration in order to ensure all your badges are moved correctly. We’re also rolling out a new badge and gamification system later this summer so you can earn a whole set of new badges based on your engagement and contribution in a specific area. So community contributions earn badges and improve our rank? Yes. Our new system will also have badges where you are rewarded for specific actions: providing solutions, tagging content, and asking questions. Badges will have additional levels allowing you to advance from a Level I starter all the way up to a Level V master (and maybe more) quicker than before. In other words, complete a certain number of specific actions and earn a new badge level. More to come on this soon. Unlike badges, rank advancement is based on your overall contributions to the Cloudera Community. Simple interactions and useful input will still contribute to your rankings, but advanced, well-rounded contributions really boost your rank. Leaderboard To further highlight our outstanding community members and promote a little friendly competition, our new system will also feature multiple leaderboards that recognize: Top Solution Authors Top Kudoed Authors Top Community Article Contributors Top Repo Contributors Want to learn more? We will share detailed information to give you full insight after the migration is complete, so stay tuned for more updates. Please don’t hesitate to contact our Community Team with any questions. We’re so excited to implement this new Reputation Program because we know our community is nothing without the people who bring it to life, and we want to recognize your contributions and participation. Thank you for helping us continue to grow our collective knowledge by asking questions, adding content, and sharing your expertise. —The HCC and Cloudera Community Team Community Upgrade & Migration Related Announcement Links: HCC Community Merge (6/26) What’s Changing for Hortonworks Community Connection (7/10) Community Changes and Feature Definitions Details (7/10) Accessing The Cloudera Community After Migration (7/21)

This article seeks to provide answers to a few questions, frequently-asked on HCC, about Cloudera Data Platform (CDP).
I heard that the first release of CDP will be for the big cloud vendor's platforms. Is that true?
Yes. The first release of CDP will be for Public Cloud.
How can I learn more about CDP between now and the release date?
This demo webinar is a fairly complete overview of CDP Public Cloud. Recently, there was a webinar on the Data Warehouse service, which is part of CDP Public Cloud. These are good webinars to learn more about CDP. In August, there will be additional webinars on CDP Public Cloud. Also, there will be much more information on CDP Public Cloud at Strata in New York.
When can we expect a preview of CDP?
By the end of August 2019, we expect to provide customers access to the initial CDP Public Cloud services. By Fall (Sep/Oct) we expect to provide customer access to the first on-premises release (CDP Data Center).
Great! How can I keep up with the latest developments?
To stay up to date on the latest information and/or request access to CDP (Public Cloud and/or Data Center), contact your Cloudera account team or go to www.cloudera.com.

In the HCC Community Merge announcement, we shared exciting news that the Cloudera Community and Hortonworks Community Connection (HCC) will unite our content and members under one roof. The purpose of this article is to show you how to activate your HCC account in the new Cloudera Community. If you’re coming from HCC and do not have a Cloudera account, read the information below to learn more about how to activate your account once migration is complete in August. Stay tuned for the migration announcement. If you have an existing Cloudera account, simply navigate to the Cloudera homepage and enter the requested information to log in as usual. No activation is needed on your end. Activating your Migrated HCC Community Account After the migration currently scheduled on August 4th, you will need to follow these key steps to activate your HCC account in the new community: Navigate to the new Cloudera Community. Visiting HCC or your bookmarked HCC page after the migration is complete will redirect you to the corresponding page in the Cloudera Community. You can always choose to open The Cloudera Community's Sign In page directly. Click on the “Activate your account here” link to activate your account or “Sign in” with an existing HCC email address. Follow the account activation prompts. During the account activation process, you will be prompted to check your email for an activation link. Look for an email from <noreply@cloudera.com> that contains the activation link and click the “Activate My Account” button or copy and paste the activation link to your browser. Verify/update your profile details (username, first name, and last name) and click submit. Note: If your HCC username is already in use in the Cloudera Community, you will be defaulted to a slightly different username, which you can update as desired, to avoid duplication of accounts in the combined community. Once complete, you now have access to all your migrated and pre-existing HCC content. Managing Your Account Here’s a quick introduction to what’s changing and what’s staying the same in the new community to help you make the most out of your account: How can I ensure my account and content migrates correctly? Be sure to log in or activate your account using the email account you registered with on Hortonworks Community Connection (HCC). Why can't I keep my HCC username? If upon account activation you notice you cannot use the username you had in HCC it’s because that username is already in use on the Cloudera Community. But no worries! You will have the option to set a new user name for yourself in the activation process. When you complete the activation you will be connected to your migrated profile and content. What will not migrate to the new community? Your content and profile will be migrated to the new community. If you followed content or other HCC members you will need to reset those options. In the new Cloudera Community expand your network by using the "Add as Friend" feature and "Subscribe" to content you want to follow. We will have help documentation available for these options. HCC preferences will not migrate to the Cloudera Community. Take time to reset your preferences and explore new features. To reset your preferences click my Profile → My Settings → Subscriptions & Notifications. You’ll receive an immediate email notification for your content subscriptions by default. You can change the frequency to: never, daily, or weekly. Also be sure to check the What’s Changing for Hortonworks Community Connection post for more details What will be moved to the new community? Existing HCC content and user profiles will move to the new community. Please verify that your messages, repos, and articles transferred over successfully, and be sure to reset your “followers” subscriptions as your existing list will not transfer. What will change in the new community? The new Cloudera Community will include a modern layout with an easy to use interface. For full details and information on what’s changing check out the What’s Changing for Hortonworks Community Connection post. Need Help? Contact our Community Team for any questions or issues or post a comment below using the Add comment link. The new Cloudera Community is almost here! Stay tuned for additional updates and we appreciate your support and cooperation. —The HCC and Cloudera Community Team Community Upgrade & Migration Related Announcement Links: HCC Community Merge (6/26) What’s Changing for Hortonworks Community Connection (7/10) Community Changes and Feature Definitions Details (7/10) Accessing The Cloudera Community After Migration (7/21) Migrating your HCC Reputation: What You Need to Know (7/23)

@Jay Kumar SenSharma Following this post helped pass the Ambari connection test, thanks. Was able to find a bit of explaination for this fix here: https://stackoverflow.com/a/47558163/8236733. However, contrary to what your answer seems to imply, despite the connection test now passing, still getting the # mysql -u root -p -h <some remote cluster node>
ERROR 2003 (HY000): Can't connect to MySQL server on '<theremote cluster node>' (111) errors. Any suggestions?

Last month in the “HCC Community Merge” announcement, we shared exciting news that the Cloudera and Hortonworks communities will unite our content and members under one roof! In preparation for this transition mid-August, we want to share more important details you’ll need to know to prepare! What should I expect in the new community? Our goal is to continue to be a trusted source of information and answers and we strive to consistently improve your journey. We understand you’ve grown accustomed to the HCC user experience, and that’s why we’re working hard to prepare the foundation for the new combined Cloudera Community. We expect this work will ease the transition and provide both the valuable content and simplified experience you’ve come to expect. In the new community you will continue to: Ask questions. When you’re unable to find the answer click “Ask a Question” in the main navigation menu at the top to start a new question from any community page. Look for correct answers. Find questions marked with a green “Solved” stamp to find questions with answers. And don’t worry, we’re migrating all the HCC questions and answers! Connect and network with other like-minded experts. Our community is about to double! Be sure to “Add as Friend” new members with expertise you want to follow. Search or Browse. You choose! You will still be able to “Browse” all questions, technical articles or repos. You can also search, as the search box is persistent everywhere in the community. Also, the Advanced Search will allow you to filter community content by labels, date, author, metadata, post type, and contains (text). Additionally, the home page will allow you to toggle the feed by open questions, solved questions, or technical content. Share your expertise and knowledge. Continue to share your knowledge or troubleshooting tips to help us grow the community’s knowledge. And don’t worry, we will migrate the HCC code repositories and user articles to the new community. Search technical articles. All community members will continue to have access to user-generated Community Articles containing valuable troubleshooting tips submitted by our members. Subscription customers will continue to have access to the official Hortonworks Support Knowledge Base where you can search articles for answers to the most common issues our customers face. Later this fall, customers will also gain access to a greater repository of support content when the official Cloudera Support Knowledge is merged. To learn more about becoming a support customer visit Cloudera Support. The new Cloudera Community will feature a modern layout with an easy to use interface. Get your first look at a few key areas of the new community: Community Home Question User Profile page Want to learn more? Check out our post for detailed information on how to find or perform the common user actions in the new community. How will I access the new community? Your user account and content will migrate over to the new community. Stay tuned for more details outlining the process for registering and activating accounts. We’ll help you understand how the move can impact your username and how to update your account preferences. Can I keep my community reputation? The new community will roll out a new reputation system that will include, among other things, a new community badge strategy and rank system. We are paying particular attention to migrating HCC member reputation. First, we believe the badges you’ve earned should move with you, simply because you’ve achieved them! This will be a one-time migration of badges you earned from HCC to your new Cloudera Community profile (in other words, you will no longer earn HCC badges, but the ones you have earned will move with you). Second, the new community platform uses a rank system, not a point system. But our team is working hard to ensure members will migrate into an appropriate rank level based upon their points and past HCC contributions. Don’t worry, our top members can still achieve new rank levels, too! Finally, we’ll be implementing a new badge system this summer. You’ll soon be able to earn new badges and advance your rank level every time you engage in the new community. Learn more about the new community reputation plans at Migrating your HCC Reputation: What You Need to Know. How can I learn more? The Cloudera Community is almost here! Our team will continue to share important updates in the weeks to come, including more details around our exciting new Reputation System. Don’t forget to leave your feedback and comments because they are vital to our success both now and in the future.
